Collie backpackBefore joining the Perth Bushwalkers Club Inc it is necessary to complete an introductory walk.

The leader of each introductory walk does his or her best to ensure that the walk is as close as possible to a typical club event, and participants have a pleasant walk through the bush, and talk briefly about specific aspects of bushwalking in Western Australia with the Perth Bushwalkers Club Inc. Bushwalking etiquette and safety requirements are covered.

Introductory walks ensure that all members have a known minimum standard of fitness and bushwalking competence, and are an important part of the Club’s risk management strategy.

The introductory walk is a full day event, starting at 8:00am for an 8:30am departure, and arriving back in Perth at about 5.00pm. The walk is over varied terrain - some track walking and some cross country walking - and is about 15 kilometres long. Usually there is a vertical component of about 300 metres, although this can change with each walk. No previous bushwalking experience is needed, but a reasonable level of fitness is expected. Experienced bushwalkers will be given an opportunity to share their expertise with the rest of the group if they wish.

Monarch butterfly in SerpentineThe cost of the introductory walk is $5.00 per person and prospective participants should carry additional money to pay their share in any transport costs they incur, and money for coffe or a drink as most walking parties celebrate their success afterwards at a convenient spot.
