There will be a Social evening on the 27th March.

Coffee and tea at 6.30pm with a talk ~ 7.00 for about 1 hour including question time. The venue is City of Melville EcoHub (was Piney Lakes Environmental Education Centre), 555 Leach Hwy, Winthrop WA 6150 (note that access is only available west-bound off Leach Highway).

The general public is welcome, but please RSVP to pbwcomms@gmail.com if you plan to bring a friend.

The talk will be presented by Joyce from the Walliabup Wildlife Warriors. They are a group of volunteers aiming to protect and conserve the wildlife around the Beeliar Wetlands area. The talk will mainly relate to fox predation on the South Western Snake Neck Turtle.

"Title: Where my walk has led me... Turtles of Bibra Lake

Joyce is the lake coordinator for the Bibra Lake Turtle Trackers and spends many hundred hours walking and monitoring the condition of wetland wildlife at Bibra Lake.

Thanks to her and the Walliabup Wildlife Warriors, they protect many female turtles, hatchlings and nests whilst gathering extensive data allowing prediction of nesting times and identifying nesting hotspots.

Come and hear what has happened since the mass deaths, how it has affected the 2024 Nesting season and what is currently being done to avoid local extinction of turtles and other wildlife species. This is a good news story on how Citizen Scientists like you and the Community have a legitimate voice in the Conservation space. We CAN do this!

Joyce"

You can also bring your old batteries, light globes, electronics and printer cartridges to re-cycle.
